About the position:

We are seeking all levels of experience including Senior and Junior R&D Engineers, as well as Interns. Reporting to the Director of New Product Development, responsibilities include:

  • Given high-level objectives conceptualize, design, and test new systems and products
  • Investigate new technologies and components for application in Lightning Systems products
  • Create DVP&R’s for new systems and designs
  • Commission and troubleshoot new products, both in the lab and in the field
  • Refine complex data sets into usable information and reports
  • Create system-level designs of various mechatronics systems related to commercial EV’s

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required:


  • Senior level: 5+ years experience as a Controls Engineer, Design Engineer, Test Engineer, or similar role
  • Junior level: 1 to 4 years experience as a Controls Engineer, Design Engineer, Test Engineer, or similar role or recent graduate with relevant internship experience in the automotive or aerospace industry
  • Intern level: recent grad without experience
  • Experience with writing control logic in Simulink, LabVIEW, Raptor, and/or Motohawk
  • Experience with CAN bus diagnostics and data logging with CANalyzer, PCAN and/or Kvaser
  • Understand how to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Experience with the design of thermal management systems, vehicle systems preferred
  • Experience with writing component and system specifications to meet high level objectives
  • Bachelors (ABET) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar degree

Desired experience in the following:

  • Experience with high-voltage DC systems, particularly in PHEV, EV, or FCEV applications
  • Understanding of basic EV system architecture and components
  • Knowledge and practical application of CAD systems
  • Experience in turning customer expectations into engineering requirements

  • Sr. Engineer: $85,000 – $100,000
  • Jr. Engineer: $65,000 – $85,0000
  • Intern: $20/hr, 30 hours or less a week, no benefits offered
