We are seeking a professional Human Resources Director to lead, plan, develop, and coordinate the policies and activities of personnel within the company while helping ensure legal compliance and implementation of Lightning’s growth and mission. You will be an integral part of our outstanding team, working with like-minded professionals dedicated to making a difference in the world and transforming the automotive industry.

The role will be based in the company’s headquarters in Loveland, Colorado.

About the position:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director Human Resources oversees the human resource function for Lightning eMotors including employment, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, and employee relations.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Senior human resources member of the Lightning Leadership Team.
  • Supervises and directs the work of human resources personnel.
  • Establishes policies and procedures regarding performance management, staffing, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations and other aspects of employee growth, development, and performance.
  • Works with the company leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive compensation strategy including wages, benefits, bonus, and equity.
  • Counsels company leaders regarding human resource best practices in personnel management. Maintains relationships with outside legal counsel and consulting groups on human resources related topics.
  • Directs the development and execution of an effective talent acquisition and retention program.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal government laws, including reporting.
  • Directs and designs all benefits programs working with outside vendors on specific plan design, budgeting, and cost sharing formulas.
  • Directs the execution of open enrollment, claims reviews, COBRA reporting and Company wellness programs.
  • Serves on the 401k committee, working with the plan administrator and plan fiduciary.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of HRIS system.
  • Works with the CEO, CFO, and board-appointed compensation consultant to prepare recommendations to the compensation committee of the board of directors on executive compensation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to influence supervisors, managers, and top leaders of the organization regarding human resource matters affecting the business.
  • Ability to manage inquiries, complaints or charges from employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills, especially listening skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, make decisions, and achieve results
  • Advanced knowledge of HRIS systems
  • Ability to multi-task and balance a large workload.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, related field or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing the Human Resources function in a small to medium sized manufacturing company.

Desired:

  • HR certification a plus
  • Public company experience desired
  • Automotive and/or similar manufacturing company experience desired
  • Experience in a start-up or fast-growing business required
